Prepare for the bar to be raised on deep-space 2D dog-fighting! GALAK-Z is a modern, A.I. and physics-driven open-world action game, viewed through the lens of the classic 16-bit space shooter. Powered by the next-generation Cyntient AI platform, Galak-Z puts players in control of anime-inspired spacecraft inhabiting procedurally generated worlds.
GALAK-Z is not only a love letter to 1980s arcade shooters and Japanese anime Sci-Fi. It’s also a true evolution of the 2D space-shooting genre. With hyper-responsive controls, deviously intelligent enemies, and strange, expansive worlds to navigate… it’s a modern, retro-styled blaster like you’ve never played before!
EXPLORE ALIEN WORLDS PACKED WITH DEADLY ADVERSARIES…
In GALAK-Z both stealth and skill are required to defeat truly intelligent enemies. You will be forced to outsmart enemies that think, react and cooperate like seasoned pilots! Master your ship’s sublimely-honed controls as you blast enemies, unleash missile salvos, and even toss your opponents, mech-style, to their explosive demise.
GALAK-Z utilizes the Cyntient™ A.I. platform to infuse alien enemies with the ability to analyze, react to and learn from their environment—and your behavior as a player. Only serious piloting skills will be up to the job…
INSPIRED BY CLASSICS… BUILT FOR NEXT-GEN!
GALAK-Z obviously pays homage to the classic games that invaded dark arcades and home consoles in the 1980s—stellar coin-ops such as Asteroids, Gradius and R-Type, and titles like Solar Jetman on the NES. But while rooted in classic tradition, GALAK-Z also combines the aesthetic punch of modern 2D games (like deep parallax and killer effects!) with the sophistication of 3D FPS—such as cutting-edge, enemy A.I. for deeper, more intense dog fights. Think of it as a classic shooter—on (a)steroids.
GALAK-Z WINS BEST GAME DESIGN AWARD!
Subarashīdesu! At the recent inaugural Tokyo Indie Fest in the gaming Mecca district of Akihabara, GALAK-Z scooped the top prize! Being awarded ‘Best Game Design’ is a huge honor for us given how much Japanese gaming has influenced 17-Bit and its creations. To say we’re stoked is a huge understatement−the look on Jake’s face pretty much says it all. Thanks to all who helped create this great new event!
SUMMER BLAST-OFF APPROACHING FAST!
Over the past couple of years gamers have gone hands-on with our awesome rogue-lite space shooter, largely thanks to the great support provided by Sony at events such as GDC, gamescom, PAX East, and PAX Prime. Since the roadshow wrapped up, though, we’ve been super busy, not only finishing off the game but also transplanting our studio from Seattle, WA to Kyoto, Japan! Crazy times indeed. All that remains now are several intense weeks of fine-tuning, play-testing and polishing before our baby finally gets pushed out of the space port… and your fun begins !
GALAK-Z HEADS TO VITA !
17-Bit is delighted to announce that the same space shooting gameplay of GALAK-Z on PS4 (and PC) will be heading to PS Vita! Since each game of GALAK-Z a unique, randomly-generated adventure, you’ll be able to dive deep into a fresh experience anytime you have a free moment, no matter where you are. Expect more morsels of info soon, but here‘s our announcement.
ROCK PAPER SHOTGUN LOVE
“GALAK-Z is to top-down space shooters as Spelunky is to side-scrolling platformers. It takes the simple kinetic pleasures of dodging missiles, firing lasers and boosting a spaceship around asteroids and space debris, then pairs them with procedurally generated levels and objectives, and…” Read rest of article here…
